After a Three-Year Break, He’s Back and Bigger Than Ever
For over a decade, Darryl Isaacs was the talk of Kentucky when he premiered his outrageous Super Bowl commercials. Each year was a commercial both comedic and epic, with a unique charm only Darryl Isaacs could deliver. The commercials amassed over thirty million views on YouTube and were featured everywhere from podcasts and radio to The A.V. Club.
Then, Darryl took a few years off from the Super Bowl, and the public reaction was vocal: his firm, Isaacs & Isaacs, was flooded with emails and social media comments asking when he would return. The answer to that question? Super Bowl LVIII on Sunday, February 11, 2024.
Previous commercials satirized famous pop culture obsessions like Star Wars, The Walking Dead, Game of Thrones, and Marvel Superheroes. So what big idea brought Darryl back to the screen? This year, there was more than one.
“Everyone thinks AI can magically create anything, so we decided to have fun with that. ‘What would The Hammer use AI for?’…
I think you’ll love some of the things we came up with.” Darryl says, referencing ChatGPT, Dall-E, and other artificial intelligence programs.
They didn’t just tell a story about AI in the commercial, they also used AI to help create it. “Our amazing production team used a lot of the latest AI machine learning algorithms to create many of the wild things you’ll see in the ad,” Darryl says, “animated characters and crowds, animals, even aliens and robots!”
One other element was important for Isaacs to include this year as well: his daughter’s three-time Big Ten Championship soccer team members from the University of Minnesota. “Watching this team has opened my eyes about how great women’s sports are, and how deserving they are of equal spotlight and support,” Isaacs says of the student-athletes, with whom he signed a historic endorsement deal earlier this year. “If this commercial and my support of the team can get the word out about supporting women’s sports, that’s worth it all on its own.”
The ad will premiere during the Super Bowl, but Isaacs and his team are offering a surprise sneak peek of the commercial.
