LOU ADOPTS! Mega Adoption Event 2024

Thank You For Helping Us Find Homes for 150 Dogs and Puppies!
Ten local shelters brought 150 Dogs and Puppies for On-site Adoptions at Kentucky Fair and Exposition Center on Saturday, May 11th.
The Kentucky Humane Society (KHS) with Louisville Metro Animal Services (LMAS) hosted the second annual Hammer’s Lou Adopts mega adoption event to find loving homes for nearly 200 adoptable local dogs and puppies.
Once again sponsored by Isaacs & Isaacs Personal Injury Lawyers, Hammer’s Lou Adopts offered onsite adoptions at the Kentucky Fair and Exposition Center Pavilion on Saturday, May 11th.
After finding homes for 115 dogs at last year’s event, we were able to increase our number to 150!
Lou Adopts! The Event Brings Together Local Shelters to Find Homes for Dogs and Puppies in Need.
“We are excited to bring back Hammer’s Lou Adopts to our Louisville community. This second annual mega adoption event will welcome more local shelters and showcase more available canines to adopters who are looking for their perfect match,” said Alisa Gray, President & CEO, KHS. “Last year’s success is a testament to how wonderful of an impact our community can make when we come together. When you adopt during Hammer’s Lou Adopts, you’re not only giving a loving home to a pet, but you’re also supporting your local shelters and making room for them to save even more animals.”
KHS and LMAS will be joined at Hammer’s Lou Adopts by Adopt Me! Bluegrass Pet Rescue, Anderson County Care & Control, Animal Care Society, Hardin County Animal Care & Control, The Humane Society of Oldham County, Jeffersonville Animal Shelter, MisPits and Friends and Shelby County Animal Control & Shelter to offer the public a large variety of friendly, loving adoptable local dogs and puppies.
Adoption fees will vary by participating shelters. Jefferson County adopters will be required to pay a $10.50 licensing fee. All the dogs and puppies will be spayed/neutered, micro-chipped and up-to-date on vaccinations.
Like shelters across the country, local shelters are experiencing an increase in the number of animals being surrendered. Owner surrenders and other intakes have skyrocketed nationwide while adoptions are down. The goal of Hammer’s Lou Adopts is to help find homes for as many dogs and puppies as possible to free up space in our local shelters so that they can continue to help animals in need.
“LMAS has been over max capacity for two years. Trending data tells us the flood of abandoned and stray dogs won’t be slowing down. We cannot go at it alone.” Interim Director Adam Hamilton continues, “LMAS & KHS are once again joining forces for good with Isaacs & Isaacs to bring you Hammer’s Lou Adopts! We will have dogs for every lifestyle. This mega adoption event will have waived fees and pets are microchipped, vaccinated, and altered.”
Every new pet family deserves a housewarming present, so Isaacs & Isaacs will provide each adopter with a unique branded “Hammer” gift that will only be available at this event. Attendees will also have an opportunity to have their photo taken with Darryl Isaacs, aka The Hammer himself.
Hammer’s Lou Adopts is free to attend including parking when entering through Gate 4 of the Kentucky Fair and Exposition Center. For more details, visit kyhumane.org/louadopts.
“I love dogs, I even feel like I might have been a dog in a former life,” said Darryl Isaacs, owner and founder of Isaacs & Isaacs Personal Injury Lawyers. “So if there’s anything we can do to make sure these lovable animals find their family, we’re proud and excited to be involved. If you’re looking to fill your home with more love, you won’t find a better place to do it than this event.”
About Kentucky Humane Society
The Kentucky Humane Society (KHS) is Kentucky’s most significant animal adoption agency and spay/neuter provider. KHS also provides free counseling and support to local pet owners to help them keep pets at home and out of shelters, including behavior advice, veterinary care referrals, free pet food and supplies, and more. Through its Love 120 program, KHS works with rural shelters across Kentucky to reduce overcrowding and increase their lifesaving capacity.
About LMAS
Louisville Metro Animal Services operates the city’s only open-intake shelter, which has not euthanized any pets for the fourth consecutive year due to a lack of time or space. The Harshaw Family Foundation Animal Shelter was opened in 2020, creating a single campus for all metro animal-related services. In addition to animal control, licensing, and microchipping, LMAS provides free adoptions for select shelter pets through the Pay It Forward Program. The program is supported by the non-profit organization Friends of Metro Animal Services and public donations.
