Louisville, Ky. – New traffic safety data from Kentucky Transportation Cabinet Weighted Safety Needs Assessment identifies Jefferson, Hardin, Fayette, Warren, and Pulaski counties as the five counties with the greatest overall traffic safety needs in the Commonwealth.
The rankings are based on the current date of this release and are a weighted analysis of key crash indicators, including fatalities, serious injuries, impaired-driving collisions, motorcycle crashes, commercial motor vehicle collisions, speed-related crashes, total collisions, and other factors associated with roadway safety.
According to the assessment, the top five Kentucky counties with the highest overall traffic safety concern rankings are:
- Jefferson County
- Hardin County
- Fayette County
- Warren County
- Pulaski County
“Every crash statistic represents a real person, a real family, and a life that can be changed forever,” said Darryl “The Hammer” Isaacs, Owner, Co-founder, and Chief Trial Attorney of Isaacs & Isaacs Law Firm. “These rankings highlight the communities where continued attention to safe driving behaviors, traffic enforcement, infrastructure improvements, and public awareness can make a meaningful difference in preventing serious injuries and fatalities.”
Key Findings
Jefferson County ranked first overall and led the state in several major crash categories, including total collisions, fatalities, serious injuries, motorcycle crashes, impaired-driving crashes, and commercial motor vehicle collisions.
Hardin County ranked second overall, placing among the state’s highest counties in fatalities, serious injuries, speed-related crashes, and total collisions.
Fayette County ranked third overall and ranked near the top of Kentucky counties for fatalities, serious injuries, motorcycle crashes, speed-related crashes, and overall collision volume.
Warren County ranked fourth overall, with significant rankings across multiple categories, including fatalities, serious injuries, impaired-driving collisions, motorcycle crashes, and total collisions.
Pulaski County rounded out the top five, ranking especially high in fatal and serious-injury crashes while also placing among the state’s higher-ranked counties for total crashes and speed-related collisions.
Road Safety Remains a Statewide Priority
While larger population centers often experience higher crash volumes, the report underscores the importance of educating drivers on safe driving practices, including wearing seat belts, eliminating distractions, obeying speed limits, and never driving under the influence.
“For Kentucky families, the goal is simple: getting home safely,” Isaacs said. “Whether you’re driving across town or across the state, every driver has a responsibility to make safe choices behind the wheel.”
As advocates for injury victims throughout Kentucky and the region, Isaacs & Isaacs Law Firm encourages motorists to remain vigilant and practice safe driving habits to help reduce preventable crashes and save lives on Kentucky roadways.
